Sustainable Communities Initiative

The Sustainable Communities Initiative (SCI) is a collaboration between oil sands companies, two communities in northern Alberta and many partner organizations.

SCI started as an exploration into how communities and companies could relate better, work together and create shared benefit and value around social sustainability challenges in the region where oil sands operations exist in northern Alberta. Through early discussions, Janvier and Fort Chipewyan (our partner communities) alongside industry partners, established a common vision of co-creating safe, healthy, sustainable communities where people can work, live, play and raise their children. To achieve this vision, SCI focuses on youth to engage in their own and their community's future.
