Posted on May 11

Northland School Division (NSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Turpin as Conklin Community School Principal. Before this appointment, Turpin served as the school’s Vice-Principal.

“I am excited to continue working with students, parents, staff and community members in Conklin,” said Turpin. “My goal is to empower Conklin students to love learning and achieve academic success with support from parents, staff and the community. I am honoured to take on this important role with Northland School Division.”

“Chris is an exceptional educator and has demonstrated the leadership qualities we are looking for on the Northland team,” said Dr. Nancy Spencer-Poitras, Superintendent of Schools. “He is the kind of person who will do whatever it takes to help students achieve academic success and help NSD achieve its priorities with respect to excellence in learning, leadership and relationships.”

Turpin’s career in education spans 40 years. His journey in education began at South Tall Cree School, which is near Fort Vermilion, Alberta. From there, Turpin served as a teacher, principal, department head and director for school divisions and colleges in Newfoundland.

In 2013, Turpin ventured back to Alberta and joined the Northland School Division family. Before taking on administration duties in Conklin, Chris served primarily as a junior/senior high school teacher at Father R. Perin School in Janvier and at Chipewyan Lake School.

Turpin’s education includes a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has also completed certifications for new media learning, computer networking support, entrepreneurship and teaching English as a foreign language.
