Wildfire Update

We have been closely watching the wildfire updates. To families impacted by the wildfires, our thoughts are with you. 

NSD update

Attention Parents and Guardians:

Please review the following information on how wildfires are impacting Northland schools:

  • Father R. Perin School:
    • Classes are cancelled at Father R. Perin School today (Friday, June 9, 2023) due to the air quality in the community. We will provide an update this weekend to let you know if classes will resume on Monday, June 12, 2023.

  • Chipewyan Lake School:
    • The school facility remains closed. Residents were able to return to Chipewyan Lake on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
    • The staff started preparing for an eventual return to in-school on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Enrolling Displaced Students

Some displaced students may need to finish the school year with a different school authority. Northland School Division extends an open invitation to students who are displaced by the wildfire. They are welcome to attend any Northland school to continue learning. Families can reach us at 780-624-2060. 

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)

Bishop Routhier School, Chipewyan Lake School, Gift Lake School, and Hillview School students are exempted from writing Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). Alberta Education approved this exemption due to wildfires. The other Northland schools followed Alberta Education’s original schedule for PATs.

Diploma Exams

Diploma exams are to be fully administered in June 2023. We will provide an update if anything changes.
