ATA strike vote: What families need to know

Posted on June 10

The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) held a strike vote from June 5th to 8th, 2025. TEBA (Teachers' Employer Bargaining Association) has informed us that approximately 95% of participating teachers voted in favour of a strike.

This means the ATA is now in a legal position to begin a strike, but only after providing 72 hours’ notice. While no notice has been issued at this time, the ATA now has up to 120 days from the vote to initiate strike action. This allows time for both sides to continue working toward an agreement.

In the event of job action, Northland School Division will follow direction from the provincial government.

We understand families may have questions about graduations, diploma exams, provincial achievement tests, year-end field trips, and other school activities. There are too many possible scenarios to provide specific answers at this time. We are preparing for a range of possibilities and will continue to follow provincial guidance throughout this process.

We will post regular updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely

Cal Johnson
