Posted on October 1

Northland School Division (NSD) athletes are set to take centre stage in Wabasca-Desmarais. Mistassiniy School will host the 2025 edition of the Northland Games tomorrow (October 2nd).
This highly anticipated event will bring together hundreds of Northland student-athletes from across the province for a day of competition, tradition, and community spirit. The Northland Games have become a signature event for NSD, blending traditional Indigenous games with classic track and field events.
The opening ceremony will set the tone for the day with a powerful display of culture and inspiration. Local drummers will share their songs, and an Elder will offer words to start the day in a good way. The ceremony will also feature special guest Taylor McPherson, a Mi’kmaw athlete and coach, a former international wrestler, and winner of The Amazing Race Canada.
From the heart-pounding races of the 100 and 200 meters to the cultural significance of activities such as the bone toss, dog sled race, and walrus push, the Games provide students with a unique opportunity to embrace both athleticism and tradition.
