Active Wildfires Impacting Northland School Communities
Chipewyan Lake (Chipewyan Lake School)
The Municipal District (MD) of Opportunity issued a mandatory evacuation order for the community of Chipewyan Lake due to the threat to the Chip/Alpac road on May 28th. Chipewyan Lake residents were ordered to evacuate to the Lakeview Sports Centre in Wabasca for registration and further instructions.
There will be no school at Chipewyan Lake School until further notice.

Classes have resumed for Chipewyan Lake students in Wabasca-Desmarais
We know this is a challenging time, and we’re here to support Chipewyan Lake students while families are staying in Wabasca-Desmarais.
As of Tuesday, June 3, students resumed classes at Career Pathways School. Two classrooms have been set up to support learning during this temporary relocation.
Students have access to Chromebooks, certified teachers, and educational assistants to support their learning. A small school bus is stopping at each hotel to pick up students, and staff have been in contact with families to confirm times and locations.
Wellness supports are also available for any student who may need someone to talk to.

School bus pick-up times for Chipewyan Lake students
On Tuesday, June 3, Chipewyan Lake students began attending classes at Career Pathways School in Wabasca-Desmarais.
A small Chipewyan Lake School bus is being used to pick up students from hotels each morning. Families were asked not to board a large bus.
Here are the morning pick-up times and locations:

8:40 a.m. – Luxury First (front entrance)

8:50 a.m. – Wabasca Inn (southeast corner of parking lot near gas station)

8:55 a.m. – Riverside Inn (front entrance)

8:57 a.m. – Nova Inn (Mistassiniy Road)

9:00 a.m. – Drop-off at Career Pathways School

Conklin (Conklin Community School)
An evacuation alert has been issued for Conklin due to the potential spread of wildfire LWF090 toward the community. If you are in the Conklin area, please stay alert and follow instructions from emergency officials. This is not an evacuation order. It is a warning for residents in the affected area to be ready to leave on short notice if needed. Conklin Community School will remain open at this time. Edith Lake Wildfire (SWF076)
The Edith Lake wildfire (SWF076) is located approximately 8 kilometres north of Swan Hills. It remains classified as out of control and is estimated at 17,208 hectares in size. No new growth has been observed, the updated size is based on improved mapping and assessment.
