Posted on December 21

Northland School Division (NSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Darcy Thomas as the new School Food Services Operations Manager, effective January 3, 2024. Bringing a wealth of experience in food service and management, Darcy's appointment marks a significant step in Northland School Division’s commitment to operating a lunch program in all of its schools.

Mr. Thomas has an impressive track record that includes key roles at The King's University, Boston Pizza, Montanas, Sawmill Prime and Rib Steak House, REEF Neighborhood Kitchens and Glenora Park Retirement. His expertise extends to areas such as staff training, menu development, and operational management.

This transition comes at a pivotal time as Emily Hunt, the current Operations Manager who has dedicated 30 years to School Food Services, prepares for her retirement in the spring. Darcy will be trained and mentored by Emily, ensuring a smooth and effective handover of responsibilities.

"On behalf of the Board, I extend our congratulations to Mr. Thomas on his appointment as the new School Food Services Operations Manager," said Robin Guild, Board Chair. "The Board recognizes the value of our lunch program in supporting the well-being of Northland students. The nutritious meals prepared by our dedicated cooks are critical in ensuring that every student is physically and mentally prepared, energized, and fully equipped to achieve success in learning.”

“We are very pleased to see we have recruited someone with a proven track record in the food service industry,” said Scott Meunier, Acting Superintendent of Schools/CEO. “His expertise is a significant asset to Northland School Division. I would like to express our deepest appreciation to Emily for her dedication and pivotal role in sustaining and enhancing our lunch program. Her contributions have been enormous, and her mentorship of Darcy during this transition phase is invaluable in ensuring a smooth and successful handover of this vital service."

"I am very excited to bring my passion for training and knowledge of food to Northland School Division,” said Thomas.

Mr. Thomas holds Hotel and Food Administration education from Guelph University and Hotel and Resort Management education from Sir Sanford Fleming College.

Outside of work, Darcy is a volunteer football coach and works with Dreams Take Flight Charities. He is also a proud father of six children.
