Northland School Division is accepting applications for the position of Area Maintenance Supervisor. This position combines both supervisory and hands-on duties as may be required by the department to address divisional facility needs in the designated area.
Major responsibilities include:
- Supervises all preventative maintenance and repair services to assigned Divisional facilities and buildings in his/her area, including mechanical, architectural, and other related systems, in accordance with current code and regulatory requirements as well as repairs to furnishings and appliances.
- Participates in capital building projects, modernizations and BQRP acting in consultation with the respective Facilities Manager.
- Consults with appropriate school principals and Local School Board Committees as to maintenance needs/concerns and keeps them informed of actions planned to address these matters.
- Acts as a technical consultant to the School Principal in matters related to custodial tasks and the use of janitorial supplies and equipment.
- When requested, attends Local School Board Committee meetings to answer queries and provides information on the maintenance status of the facility.
- Utilizes local resources/personnel whenever possible.
- Provides detailed estimates for all projects on request.
- Determines when specialized tradesmen are required and schedules work to minimize disruption of normal facility operation.
- Supervises those engaged in the field trades.
- Consults with and assists school custodians in preparing a list of maintenance duties, and custodial in-service specific to the facility.
- Determines material requirements and organizes the work of a large variety of building and mechanical repairs.
- Schedules planned maintenance programs and ensures their timely completion.
- Establishes personal work schedules and schedules for maintenance in collaboration with the respective Facilities Manager.
- Provides input to the respective Facilities Manager on relevant policy development.
- Maintains maintenance records on equipment.
- Interprets work orders, sketches, blueprints, and specifications.
- Recommends the additional and/or replacement of custodial equipment and housing furnishings and appliances for all assigned Divisional facilities.
- Establishes budget requirements and provides control of budgets for assigned areas, in consultation with the Local School Board Committee and respective Facilities Manager.
- Responsible for preparing an inventory of community trade people and resources.
- From time to time, other tasks and duties associated with the delivery of services in the area of maintenance and repair may be assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Knowledge of the techniques and standard practices employed in the various phases of two or more trades, such as carpentry, plastering, painting, plumbing/gas fitting, electrical, or welding.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills.
- Ability to function effectively in a cross-cultural setting.
- Be prepared to work irregular hours, as needed.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- WHMIS, TDG and First Aid training.
