Northland School Division is currently seeking a full-time Temporary Family Wellness Worker to join our dedicated teams at Grouard Northland and Hillview School. Grouard Northland School is a kindergarten to grade 11 school located in the hamlet of Grouard. The hamlet is one of the oldest settlements in Alberta and was once an important trading hub of the north. It is approximately 33 kimometres from High Prairie. Hillview School, is a kindergarten to grade 6 school located in the East Prairie Métis Settlement, one of only eight legislated Métis land bases with Métis governments established in Northern Alberta, Canada, and protected by legislation. The settlement is 35 kilometres from High Prairie, Alberta.

The Family Wellness Worker will report to the Director of Student Services and follow the central office's 12-month calendar. To learn more about what Northland School Division has to offer, please visit www.nsd61.ca/careers.

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Provide intervention and/or support services to students and families who may be at risk or currently facing social, emotional, behavioral or family challenges
  • Promote effective communication and parenting skills
  • Build skills with the students individually and in small groups
  • Assist in finding information and resources such as counseling after hour crisis response workers
  • Advocate within the school and the community
  • Promote preventative opportunities within the schools and community
  • Collaborate with community agencies

Qualifications include: 

  • Degree in Social Work. 
  • Valid driver's license

The vision of the program is to provide free confidential intervention services to students and families in order to support their emotional, behavioral and social wellbeing. The salary for this position is based on qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefit package is also provided.
