Year-end Message - Board Chair

Posted on June 26

Tansi, Edlánat’e, Hello students, parents, guardians, and community members.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication all of you have exhibited throughout the entire school year. The 2019-2020 school will go down as one we will never forget due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While it has been a challenging time for all of us, a lot of good things have occurred in the last few months.

When Dr. Nancy Spencer-Poitras, Superintendent of Schools, updated the Board on what’s been happening in Northland since in-person classes were cancelled, we were so impressed with how everyone came together to execute NSD’s “Continuing Student Learning Plan”. As displayed in the “Continuing Student Newsletters” Volume #1 and Volume #2, it was exciting to see students continuing their learning journey through the use of technology and completing learning packages prepared by staff.

I want to take this opportunity once again to thank some of our education partners. In May, The Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) and Rupertsland Institute (RLI) donated Chromebooks to support online learning for  Métis students in the division. The donation helped families who needed technology support at home. I also want to thank Jane Stroud, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Councillor, and Telus for helping to make sure all Anzac students have access to wireless internet at home.

To parents and guardians, thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home. Your efforts are appreciated. To all community members, thank you for all the positivity demonstrated to school staff with respect to student learning and lending a hand when needed. When we distributed the remaining School Food Services lunch program funding to various organizations, a lot of individuals stepped up to organize and distribute snacks and meals to families.

To our high school graduates. Congratulations to you on graduating high school. The Northland family is proud of your well-deserved accomplishment. We send our best wishes as you take the next step in your education journey. Have a wonderful and safe summer break everyone. We will see you in September.

Hai, Hai, Masi cho, Thank you.

Sincerely,

Robin Guild
